What are Friends of the Library?

Friends of the Hammond Public Library are goodwill ambassadors, spreading the word in the community and generating grassroots support for the library.

They stimulate greater awareness of library programs and services.

They raise funds for projects and materials not covered by the library's operating budget.

Friends speak to civic groups, attend governmental meetings, and contacts government officials communicating the library's financial needs.

Friends advocate by speaking out on issues that affect libraries.

They sponsor cultural and educational programs of interest: talks by authors, book discussion groups, art or musical events, writing or poetry contests, and other activities.

Friends provide volunteer help in the library when and where needed.

Friends recognize exceptional performance of library staff members.

Friends share their knowledge with other groups - a win-win situation.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Friends of the Library Hammond, Indiana, Inc., is to promote the continued existence of Hammond Public Library services as a cultural and community asset through advocacy, volunteerism, and fundraising.

Fundraisers
The Friends conduct an ongoing book sale in the Book Sale Room, Half-price sale the last Saturday of the month (excluding holidays). They sell recyclable tote bags and TASC (GED) study guides. Look for details about other fundraisers and events.
